Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a major honors show nears, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
