A person who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepchild contacted the police about his worries.
She said Ruben proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.
The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member called the law enforcement again.
She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
