'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling final moments of his team's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses after the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative strike from 25 yards, and his teammate quickly slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory booked a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right flank after the team changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a strong mentality and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was probably a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for club and country, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including two matches fixtures against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his dad, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an plastic turf and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "This represented a extended travel and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on public transport after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
