Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
